HACU President states "If DREAM Act students are given a chance, they will contribute to our economy"

The Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU), a longtime supporter of the DREAM Act and the lead organization of the ACT on the DREAM Coalition, submitted a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee in full support of the Senate Hearing and the DREAM Act.

The hearing, entitled “S. 952, Development, Relief, And Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2011,” took place today at 10 a.m. in Washington, D.C., and was also webcast.

In the statement, HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores emphasizes the economic benefits to the nation of enacting the DREAM Act.

“If DREAM Act students are given a chance, they will contribute to our economy by putting their skills to use, securing better jobs and paying more in taxes,” Flores indicated in the statement. “In fact, students are likely to stay in the state where they were raised, thereby paying for their education and contributing to that state’s economy.”
