Clinton: Africa Must Decide relations with Gaddafi


U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged African countries to break with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and working with Libyan opposition groups.Clinton issued a statement Monday in a speech at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Clinton urges African leaders to ask for Gaddafi received a cease-fire with rebels Libya and hand over power.He also asked them to expel the pro-Gaddafi diplomats from their countries and provide support for the rebels in Libya's National Transitional Council.

Clinton acknowledged Gaddafi assistance for various African institutions over the years, but he said that Gaddafi had been too long in power.Ethiopia is the last stopover in Clinton's trip to four countries. Tour that began last week in the United Arab Emirates, where Italy, France and other countries promised aid worth 1.1 billion dollars to the rebels Libya.
