U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the plan by a small church in Florida for the burning of Al-Quran on September 11, 2010 as actions that "dishonorable and shameful." Clinton's comments Tuesday were presented at the dinner breaking the fast (iftar) at the U.S. State Department's office Tuesday night, 7 September.

The top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan General David Petraeus and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has warned that the plan of the Muslim holy book burning by 50 members of the Dove World Outreach Center may be harmful to the Western armies.

Pastor Dove World Outreach Center Church in Florida, Terry Jones, said he responded with a serious warning about possible violent acts against Americans overseas.

However, Jones and his followers said it has decided to carry out the protest, which will coincide with the time-ninth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks against America.
